WHY SUSTAINABLE LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT?
SEGM is focused on two interrelated factors: human and organisation.
The shared aspiration of societies is built upon safety, peace, progress, and access to better
living conditions. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations
represent a global call to action — one that aims to ensure a more just, inclusive, and
prosperous world for both present and future generations.
Achieving these goals requires, first, awareness — and then the competencies needed to
translate that awareness into action. In today's volatile, digitizing world shaped by
multidimensional risks, skills are constantly evolving.
The path to adapting to this change and developing the capacity for resilience lies in
internalizing a culture of lifelong learning. Making sound decisions, responding to new
situations quickly yet responsibly, co-creating value for societal well-being, and building
resilience are all made possible through continuous learning and development.
At SEGM, we believe: A sustainable future can only be reached through sustainable
learning and development.
WHY SUSTAINABILITY?
Sustainability is not merely an environmental concept — it is a holistic model of
development that encompasses economic stability, social well-being, institutional resilience,
and the right of future generations to thrive.
The multiple risks we face today — the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, the rate of natural
resource depletion, social inequalities, rapid urbanization, the impacts of digital
transformation, shifting demands for a qualified workforce, and young people's anxieties
about the future — make it clear that continuing without placing sustainability at the center
is no longer viable.
At SEGM, we approach sustainability with an ethical perspective at our core, addressing it
across all dimensions of environment, social responsibility, and governance as a culture of
living and a sense of responsibility toward society.
This understanding forms the foundation of the programs, projects, partnerships, training
initiatives, and social responsibility projects we have developed to support sustainable
transformation alongside the public sector, business community, academia, and civil society.
WHY EXCELLENCE?
Excellence is a journey that requires dedication, passion, courage, and commitment. It is not
merely about institutional targets — it is an ethical promise made to society, to the world,
and to future generations.
An excellence-driven approach means that individuals and institutions continuously strive
for "always better" by adapting to ever-changing conditions. It embodies a culture of quality,
innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
At SEGM, we believe that visionary and resilient institutions, communities, and individuals
who embrace excellence as a value are those best positioned to make meaningful
contributions to a sustainable future.
For this reason, excellence is at the heart of our founding vision.
WHY SEGM?
We want the names we give to our institutions to carry their focus, stance, character, goals
— and even their aspirations. When we founded SEGM in 2019, we set out to bring together
the principles of lifelong learning and development, sustainability, and excellence under one
roof.
SEGM is an organization that:
◾ Places human dignity and equality at its core,
◾ Champions equal opportunity,
◾ Makes no distinction based on language, religion, race, gender, or identity,
◾ Values the potential of youth,
◾ Is committed to good governance, ethics, and transparency,
◾ Centers the creation of value for society.
In collaboration with the private sector, public institutions, universities, national and
international organizations, and civil society groups, we design and implement innovative
programs that support sustainable development, strengthen organizations on their
sustainability journey, and aim to cultivate the next generation of sustainability leaders.
OUR PURPOSE
To contribute to the realization of programs and projects that create value for lifelong learning, institutional transformation, and sustainability in society and the business world — and to promote the adoption of cultures centered on learning, development, sustainability, excellence, and good governance — enabling individuals and institutions to act more consciously, capably, and effectively.
OUR VISION
To become Turkey's and the region's most trusted, most inclusive, and most innovative
reference point in the fields of learning, development, sustainability, excellence, and good
governance.
To be a compass that guides, empowers, and transforms every segment of society.
OUR CORE VALUES
Human-Centered and Benefit-Oriented: We carry out work that supports the human
element without any discrimination — regardless of language, religion, color, ethnicity,
gender, or age — and contribute to existing initiatives.
Creating Value for Society: We conduct activities aimed at spreading a sustainable, high-
quality, well-grounded, and beneficial "lifelong learning and development" approach
throughout society.
Respect for Diversity: We embrace our differences as a source of richness and treat diversity
with respect.

and organizational domains through our work.

openness to innovation and agility — we adapt quickly to change and carry out our work
with an agile philosophy.
SEGM STRATEGIC FOCUS AREAS
SEGM's institutional purpose and its vision of sustainable learning and societal excellence
are structured across complementary, multi-dimensional strategic verticals. These areas
form the core framework that guides all of SEGM's projects, partnerships, learning content,
and advocacy activities..
1. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, CLIMATE, AND POLICIES SEGM addresses sustainable
development at the intersection of environment, economy, and society — through
awareness and capacity building on themes such as the climate crisis, biodiversity, circular
economy, and sustainable urbanization; monitoring national and international sustainability
policies; strengthening cross-sector collaborations; and developing strategic roadmaps
aligned with the UN SDGs.
2. YOUTH, LEARNING, AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY SEGM sees young people as the driving
force of a sustainable future — delivering sustainability leadership programs for youth,
inclusive and accessible learning models, digital age skills and lifelong learning culture, and
initiatives supporting disadvantaged youth in social and economic participation.
3. DIVERSITY – EQUITY – INCLUSION (DEI) AND HUMAN RIGHTS SEGM's institutional stance
is grounded in human dignity and equality — covering anti-discrimination policy design,
inclusive learning and work environments, gender equality, disability rights and accessibility,
and empowerment of vulnerable groups.
4. NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT SEGM designs and
implements project partnerships with national and international organizations, research and
academic collaborations with universities, policy-alignment projects with public institutions,
and sustainability-focused capacity development programs with the private sector.
5. STRENGTHENING THE SUSTAINABILITY PROFESSION ECOSYSTEM One of SEGM's key
contributions to Turkey is systematizing sustainability expertise as a professional field —
through developing green job and sustainability competency frameworks, expanding the
CORPSUS ESG analysis scale, contributing to VQA regulations, and developing new
occupational standards.
6. ETHICS, GOOD GOVERNANCE, AND INSTITUTIONAL EXCELLENCE This vertical is the heart
of SEGM's excellence approach — covering quality management systems, a culture of
continuous improvement, ethical management, transparency and accountability, strategic
management and process excellence, and advancing organizations' sustainability maturity
levels.
7. SOCIAL IMPACT AND SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP Sustainability is a matter of
environmental, social, economic, and governance well-being. This vertical is built around
social impact projects for vulnerable groups, inclusive and sustainable social transformation
models, social innovation processes and social entrepreneurship, and community-focused
learning programs with local governments.
